David E James: End-to-End Consulting for Nonwovens, Healthcare IPC, Sustainable Packaging & Factory Automation.

Guiding Your Product from Concept to Compliance, and from Production to Pallet

For over thirty years, David E. James has lived and breathed the nonwovens industry. Starting in Quality Assurance on a production shift, he gained a ground-up understanding of how wipes are made before rising to lead technical projects supporting global giants like Johnson & Johnson. When the industry faced its greatest challenges around flushability, David was on the front lines—literally pulling apart sewer blockages with the UK water industry to understand the real-world impact. This practical experience is backed by deep academic rigour, including an LLM in Environmental Law. David has chaired the EDANA wet Wipes working group and currently sits as a UK expert on flushable products on ISOTC224WG10. He offers his clients a rare combination of hands-on expertise and strategic, regulatory authority.

Focus on Flushability

Flushability is a significant concern for certain types of nonwoven products, particularly those used for personal hygiene and cleaning, such as wet wipes, baby wipes, and personal care wipes. The relevance of flushability for nonwovens lies in its implications for waste management, environmental impact, and the proper functioning of wastewater infrastructure.

We can help your organisation navigate every aspect of the journey towards flushability and work with water companies, governments and manufacturers to ensure maximum environmental benefit.

The David E. James Consultancy supports the Nonwovens Industry code of practice for labelling wet wipes packaging “Communicating Disposal Pathways for Single Use Nonwoven Wet Wipes to Protect Wastewater Systems”.
